Dirty John: Why the Show Didn’t Hit the Mark

Domestic violence in all its forms is kind of the subject ‘of the hour’ in my country due to a series of unbelievable court decisions regarding it and cases involving it. Maybe because of that, I had some sort of expectations about this show that weren’t totally fulfilled by what it’s really about. It Didn't Convince Me From what I saw, the show wasn’t very entertaining because it was too slow. Debra ( Connie Britton - You can also watch her at 911 and Zero Day ) was a tedious, monotonous character, and John - Eric Bana ( Untamed ) - wasn’t very convincing as a villain.  As I hadn’t heard of this particular case before, it was only by the end of the first episode that I knew it was based on real facts and people, but that just made the whole thing seem… even more shallow. On Purpose? After a couple of episodes, however, I realized that some of that vibe, of that feeling it was evoking, how fake it all seemed, might all be on purpose. T His apparent ‘not-so-great...

Russian Doll - A Pleasant Surprise

When I first watched the trailer for this show, all I could think of was that it seemed like that one Supernatural episode where the Winchester brothers were always coming back to the same day and dying repeatedly, which I personally thought was annoying as hell.  So, I cast it aside, dismissed it and decided I probably wouldn’t enjoy watching it.  However, later, out of the blue, I decided to give it a try, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the show actually is. Instead of being annoying or repetitive, the story evolves and heightens your curiosity every time she comes back to life and decides to change her route. Surprisingly Good, Still Missing Something As usual in these kinds of shows, the end didn’t provide us with many answers, leaving some doubt lingering in the air, enabling a possible second season. Even so, this show is worth your time. The characters are unusually deep for the genre, the dialogue is fluid and natural, and, despite the weirdn...

Bird Box - Movie Review

A post-apocalyptic scenario without zombies. Is that possible? Yes! And with quite an interesting result, to be honest.  Bird Box , starring Sandra Bullock, offers a fresh take on the well-explored scenario of an apocalyptic event. Not Exactly Jumpy It wasn’t as scary as I read it would be; your heart will not race a lot, but it’s a pretty decent movie and a good time, definitely.  It might seem a little slow in the beginning, but as the story unfolds, it will most certainly catch and hold your attention until the very end. Curious Choices The protagonist is a very curious choice, as well as the way the story develops. Her internal growth is obvious, but also her very own individual goals.  Rather than trying to find an explanation for whatever is happening or how it might all come to be, all she wants is to reach shelter, both for herself and the children. However, she won’t look like the perfect mother who will do everything for her babies. That makes...
