Raising Voices - Why Alma's Mom Had the Right Reaction

In Netflix’s Raising Voices , there's a raw, emotionally charged moment when Alma confesses to her mom that something happened the night she disappeared — she was drunk, she had sex, and something didn’t feel right. It’s the kind of moment that many parents dread. But Alma’s mom handled it in a way that deserves attention. She didn’t panic. She didn’t judge. She didn’t lose control. Instead, she met her daughter halfway, which made all the difference. What Happened in the Scene? When Alma opened up to her mom, she wasn’t just confessing — she was testing the waters for safety. Could she trust her mom with the truth? Would she still be loved after saying something shameful, scary, or confusing? Her mom’s response wasn’t perfect — but it was real. She was concerned, but didn’t explode. She asked questions. She listened. She let the moment breathe. Why That Reaction Matters Technically, what Alma described can be considered sexual assault , given her level of intoxication. Bu...

Raising Voices-A Messy Start That Becomes Something Powerful

Raising Voices (original title: Ni Una Más ) is the kind of show that initially made me want to stop watching — and then made me glad I didn’t.  Based on the novel by Miguel Sáez Carral , this Spanish Netflix series explores teen life, sexual violence, and the power of speaking out. It's not always subtle, but it's effective.  At First, It Felt Like Too Much The first couple of episodes? Honestly, I didn’t love them. It felt like the writers were trying to cram every possible issue related to sexual assault into one high school. Revenge porn, harassment, grooming, slut-shaming, rape culture — all at once. It was overwhelming. I wasn’t sure where to focus. Instead of building empathy, it felt like the show was going for pure shock value. It was hard to care when everything was dialed up to 100. But then something clicked. Maybe That Chaos Was the Point That disorientation — not knowing exactly what’s wrong, just feeling that something is — turns out to be inten...

13 Reasons Why - The Portrait of Pain

I just finished watching 13 Reasons Why last night, and I still feel something I’m not quite able to put into words. Suicide is a Heavy Topic I had previously read some criticism about the show regarding how negative it could be, how impactful it could be on teenagers, and how inappropriate it was to romanticize the notion of suicide in this manner. Romanticize?! Well, I had only watched one episode when I read all of this, and I was somewhat in agreement. Yes, romanticizing such a thing could never be a good thing; it would tell the victims that these actions were a suitable response to their feelings. However, after watching the entire show, I must admit that I now understand all the concerns, but I saw it from a different perspective. Are Teens Evil? It’s disturbing, I indeed can’t deny it. In my country, we have this saying that I can’t precisely recall right now, but it’s about how children can be cruel sometimes, but when you’re a teenager, the cruelty you ca...

Gilmore Girls: A Year in Life - It Falls a Bit Flat

After binge-watching all seven seasons of the original show , I couldn’t resist diving into the reboot as well. I have to admit, though — it was a bit of a letdown. Good Memories Aren’t Always Enough For longtime fans who followed the series while it was still airing, this revival might feel like a warm, familiar trip down memory lane. But for me, watching it all at once and then moving into the reboot, it felt like something was missing — maybe depth, maybe emotional weight.  The nostalgia alone just didn’t carry it. Inconsistencies in the Plot? Or Just Underdeveloped? I really appreciated Rory ’s dilemma — it felt genuine and timely. In fact, it raised my expectations for the rest of the story. Unfortunately, those expectations weren’t met.  Lorelai and Luke’s relationship seemed stuck, showing almost no growth after all these years, while Paris’ evolution felt rushed and a bit over-the-top. A Bit of a Disappointment There isn’t much more to say. I adored the or...

Gilmore Girls - A funny way to end your day

This blog is all about art, all kinds of art. I decided to broaden the themes of the blog, as art is a wonderfully abstract concept where almost anything can fit in. For me, art is something that betters someone’s day or makes them think, something that could fascinate them or maybe even scare them. Art is something about the way in which you see life, the way you relax, and the way you work. Summing it up, art is everything that makes you actually feel something. So, there’s a lot of stuff that could fit in this description of mine, don’t you think? I love shows and series. They’re my way to unwind at the end of the day, and when they are really good, they inspire me. From my perspective, they clearly fit into this category. So I decided to talk about some of them, the ones I watched, am currently watching, or intend to watch, and share with you how I feel about them. My first post on this subject is about an old TV series that I am currently watching for th...
