Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story - review

While I found the pacing of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story slow and, at times, even boring, the show shines in one particular area: its psychological depth.  What kept me engaged wasn’t the storytelling rhythm, but the way it explored two very distinct and haunting personalities under the same roof. Two Sides of the Same Violence The series captures the sharp contrast between Lyle and Erik brilliantly. On one side, we see the volatile, angry, and violent brother—unpredictable but outwardly dominant, always ready to explode. On the other side, there is the insecure, fragile “mouse” of the family—timid, hesitant, almost paralyzed by fear.  Yet, what makes Erik compelling is that under the right conditions, even he can lash out violently, especially when pulled into the orbit of his more aggressive brother. The dynamic between them feels like a nightmare recipe: one commanding, the other submissive, but both carrying destructive potential. The Many Shape...

Review: Untamed (2025 – Netflix)

Netflix’s Untamed (2025) is one of the streamer’s most striking original thrillers this year. Combining the intensity of a murder mystery with the breathtaking scenery of Yosemite National Park , the series delivers suspense, atmosphere, and a surprising sense of justice. What Is Untamed About? The story begins with a mysterious death on El Capitan, pulling National Park investigator Kyle Turner,  played by Eric Bana ( Dirty John ), into a complex web of secrets. Alongside fellow investigator Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago), Turner must untangle lies, crimes, and personal demons while navigating the dangers of both nature and human corruption. Performances That Stand Out Eric Bana anchors Untamed with a raw, haunted performance, while Lily Santiago adds empathy and sharpness as Vasquez.  Veteran actor  Sam Neill (you may remember him from Jurassic Park ) brings warmth as Turner’s mentor.  Together, this cast gives the series both gravitas and emotiona...

Wednesday 2 (Part 1) – A Gorgeously Dark Return to Nevermore

Wednesday Season 2 lands with all the gothic flair that made the original binge-worthy —this time spotlighting even richer family dynamics and chilling new mysteries at Nevermore Academy. The first four episodes dropped on Netflix August 6, 2025 , with fans grudgingly waiting until September 3 for Part 2. Why It’s Still a Blast Jenna Ortega continues to shine as a morose sleuth grappling with her supernatural talents and unwanted hero status. Her sharp delivery and deadpan wit are as compelling as ever. Family ties get deeper attention —Pugsley’s arrival at school, Morticia’s campus involvement (with Catherine Zeta-Jones in flamboyant form), and intriguing new faces like Steve Buscemi as the oddball new principal elevate the ensemble. Atmosphere and aesthetic remain rich and inventive. Tim Burton’s return as director (including a delightfully eerie animated sequence) and the inclusion of ominous crows and haunting visuals continue to delight. Mystery hooks abound:...

Can Monsters Love?Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story

Netflix's Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story is not just a true crime documentary — it’s a psychological deep dive into one of the most disturbing couples in British criminal history .  While the crimes are shocking, the nature of Fred and Rose’s relationship truly unsettles. Were they in love? Or was their bond something far darker? A Match Made in Hell From the moment Fred and Rose met, something clicked. But it wasn’t a love story — it was a dangerous connection built on control, abuse, and mutual cruelty.  The documentary shows us how they fed off each other’s darkest urges. It wasn’t about love in the traditional sense. It was about power, domination, and shared depravity. Can Psychopaths Feel Love? This is the big question. Can two people with such extreme psychological disorders really feel love? Some experts believe psychopaths can feel attachment, but not empathy — they might need someone, but not care for them in the way most of us understand....

Adolescence: A Mirror We Can’t Look Away From

How Can a 13-Year-Old Commit Murder? What was once an absurd, unthinkable question is the central premise of Adolescence , Netflix ’s latest British drama.  From the first episode, the show grips you with its raw portrayal of youth violence. It pushes us to confront an unsettling reality—children, barely teenagers, are capable of unimaginable acts. But Adolescence does not sensationalize crime; rather, it dissects it , laying bare the complex web of factors that lead to such a moment. It’s Not About the Victim Unlike many crime dramas, Adolescence does not dwell on the victim. Instead, it forces us to ask: Who is the perpetrator? Who is his family? Who are his friends? What kind of environment produces a child capable of killing?  The show wrestles with these haunting questions, exposing the uncomfortable truth that the killer does not come from an easily identifiable “dangerous” background. His family is normal—too normal. This leads us to the most disturbing though...

Banshee Review: A Hidden Gem That You Can't Stop Watching

After being thoroughly impressed by Antony Starr's performance as the villain Homelander in The Boys , I decided to dive into his earlier work in Banshee . To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. This show is nothing short of a hidden gem that grips you from the very first episode and refuses to let go. The “Good” Villain At the heart of Banshee is Antony Starr, whose portrayal of the mysterious ex-con posing as the town's sheriff is nothing short of mesmerizing. Starr brings an incredible depth to his character, Lucas Hood, who is as complex as he is captivating.  On the surface, Hood is a rough, violent man with a past steeped in crime, but as the series unfolds, we see the many layers that make up his character. He's haunted by his past and driven by a sense of justice that often puts him at odds with the law. Yet, despite his flaws, he has a surprising capacity for loyalty and love. Mesmerizing Performances Starr's performance is the linchp...

The Boys (Season 4) - Here we go again

The Boys ' fans eagerly anticipated this new season and all the craziness it would bring. As happens often, when you have too high expectations, some are seriously disappointed. It's not that the show didn't deliver what it promised. The audience had too much time to create their own theories and guess situations, and some of them… were extremely defrauded. Kimiko and Frenchy One of the most criticized situations in the first three episodes was Frenchy's relationship with a man. Most fans imagined that he would end up in a romantic relationship with Kimiko. Sure, they ignored previous mentions of his bisexuality or that Kimiko rejected him. Honestly, I wanted them to be together, but the whole point of this show is to drive us insane with all sorts of unexpected situations. Starlight People can't stop commenting on Erin Moriarty's appearance. Yes, she looks very different, but so does Laz Alonso (MM), and it's okay. Why so much fuss (and critics) about her...

A Nearly Normal Family - Review

A Nearly Normal Family is a Netflix Swedish drama that explores the complexities of familial bonds and moral dilemmas.  From the first episode, the show captivates with its intricate story and well-crafted characters. It is about this seemingly perfect family whose world is turned upside down when their daughter becomes a murder suspect.  This gripping premise sets the stage for a series that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. It questions the nature of truth, loyalty, and justice. Brilliant Performances of Complex Characters The cast delivers stellar performances. Each actor brings a unique depth to their roles.  The parents are characters with a profound emotional range. They struggle between protecting their daughter and confronting the possibility of her guilt. The daughter is both vulnerable and enigmatic. She adds a layer of suspense that drives the series forward.  The dynamic between the family members reaches tremendous authenticity. You can'...

Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife - How far can your trust go?

I just finished the Netflix documentary Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife , and I must say: it's shocking! In theory, we know everyone can be bad, even our doctors, but watching it is quite different. The documentary is about the world-renowned surgeon Paolo Macchiarini. He claimed to cure patients by inserting a plastic trachea into them. This plastic tube would be bathed in stem cells and, in theory, become a living organ. The reality was quite different, and what's most scary is how the medical community itself couldn't spot him before. He literally was able to do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, with no one to stop him. Bad Surgeon, Bad Person His total disregard for human life, particularly the life of his patients, gives you the chills, but he wasn't a better person, personally speaking. He had a family in Barcelona; he seduced a reporter to get good publicity and a dead patient's mother to avoid (or try to avoid) further complications in court. They...

Bodies: A Mind-Bending Netflix Thrill Ride

In the middle of Netflix originals, Bodies stands out as a captivating and clever show that makes it impossible for you to look away. Its intricate plot and enigmatic characters will keep you glued to the screen.  It has a grip on you From the very first episode, Bodies plunges viewers into a world of mystery and intrigue. Each twist and turn adds another layer to the story, making predicting what will happen next nearly impossible.  This unpredictability is part of what makes the show so addictive — you never know what's going to happen next, and you can't help but keep watching to find out. You should be patient While Bodies is undeniably gripping, it's also a show that requires patience and concentration. Its unconventional storytelling and complex narrative can be challenging to follow at times. It may take a few episodes to fully immerse yourself in the show's world. However, the payoff is well worth it for those willing to stick with it. How does it all conn...

Gotham Knights TV Show: A Fresh Take or a Missed Opportunity?

The Gotham Knights TV show offers a fresh perspective on the iconic Batman universe. It shifted the focus away from the Caped Crusader himself and onto his extended family and allies. This series explores the aftermath of Bruce Wayne's supposed death and the impact it has on those closest to him. Unfortunately, it did not convince me. Exploring New Dynamics Gotham Knights promises to breathe new life into the Batman universe. The show explores uncharted territory and gives lesser-known characters a chance to shine. However, this fresh take doesn't seem to resonate with the audience. It boasts an ensemble cast of intriguing characters with unique backstories and connections. This could be refreshing, but the acting could be better. It's Not For Everyone   While Gotham Knights has garnered praise for its darker tone and exploration of character dynamics, it has also faced criticism. Its writing, acting, and departure from established DC lore were poorly received. ...

Twists, Turns, and Tension: Unpacking the Thrills of 'Big Sky'

Big Sky takes viewers on a thrilling journey that is bound to keep you on the edge of your seat. The show weaves an intricate plot with surprises that make you guess at every turn. From the very first episode, it hooks you with its compelling narrative and doesn't let go. The element of surprise is one of the show's strongest assets, ensuring that you're always in for a wild ride. The characters add depth to the storyline, and their development keeps you invested in their fates. The cast delivers strong performances, bringing the characters to life with authenticity.  However, Big Sky doesn't shy away from exploring darker themes, sometimes disturbing. This willingness to tackle challenging subjects adds a gritty realism to the show, making it more than a typical crime drama. The overall pacing and suspenseful atmosphere make Big Sky a must-watch for those who enjoy a good mystery.  Big Sky is a captivating show that skillfully blends suspense, drama, and unexpect...

Walker - it's about a Texas Ranger, but not THE Texas Ranger

Once I learned about this show, I couldn't ignore it. I'm a big fan of Jared Padalecki , and, like many of us, I would love to watch him again in a new show. Also, I remember watching Walker, The Texas Ranger , as a kid with my dad, so I expected a little of the warmth that comes with childhood memories. Well, after 10 minutes into the first episode, I concluded that this show and this Cordell Walker have nothing to do with Chuck Norris' 90s show. At first, it felt like a slight disappointment, but that feeling disappeared. It is different, not worse. Family Drama From what I can recall, Chuck Norris' Walker was a very one-dimensional character, and his profession defined him. He was a Texas Ranger, and that's all he was (or near it). Padalecki's approach is quite different. It is a family drama, with all the sad and sweet moments due to that genre. At the end of the first season, I concluded that the show was not about a Texas Ranger. It is about a grieving w...

The Boys - the definition of unexpected

Many people talked to me about this show from the start, but since I’m not a big fan of superheros’ stories and didn’t know this universe at all, it took me a long time to check it. If only I knew… Once I started watching, there was no way I could stop! Surprise! The premise is excellent and makes total sense to me. After all, if people could have such a significant amount of power and zero consequences for their acts… how many wouldn’t go rogue? Yet, what makes this satire priceless is the incredible, surprising stuff that happens all the time. In such a way, “surprising” is the best word to describe The Boys . Every time you are chilling watching the show, something will happen, unexpected and… absurd (in a good way). The characters The characters are, all of them, absolutely great. They are complex, with many layers, and just as everything else in the show… surprising. Even in the most odious of them, you can take a glimpse of humanity, and sometimes, you may feel sorry for the bad ...

Depp V Amber - the unbelievable before your eyes

The Depp V Amber trial was one of the latest (and biggest) worldwide scandals, and Netflix couldn't risk missing out. Hollywood star Johnny Depp took his ex-wife, Amber Heard, to court for defamation after she claimed to have been a victim of domestic violence. I didn't follow the trial then, but I couldn't avoid hearing a couple of things. Everything I heard then sounded ridiculous, and I decided not to watch those videos.  Everything sounded slightly absurd, and as Johnny Depp's fan, I didn't want to believe he would do such things, but at the same time… who knows? The Documentary When I first saw that there was a documentary about all of it on Netflix , I didn't give it much importance. Everything was finished, and why explore that even more? So, I ignored it for a while. Eventually, I got curious, so I hit the watch now button. “Really?” This was my most asked question while watching the whole thing. There was so much absurd stuff, all exposed like a gi...

Invisible City (Cidade Invisível) - A Review of a Surprising Netflix Series

Invisible City ( Cidade Invisível in its original) is a Brazilian show starring on Netflix that may surprise you. The premise is not new - mystical, legendary beings coexisting with humans that, except for a few chosen ones, have no idea they are real. What may be surprising is that they are not the creatures we are most used to seeing in this kind of show, but rather particular beings from Brazilian folklore. Into Brazilian Folklore Invisible City takes the viewer on a journey into the vibrant world of Brazilian folklore. You have characters who can enter your dreams, others who transform into animals or make a little tornado. I started watching it out of curiosity, and because I’m a fan of the actress who plays the “Cuca”, but I didn’t have great expectations about it. So I was caught by surprise, and before I realized it, I had binged-watched the entire first season.  Entities and Nature I liked both seasons, but they are undoubtedly different. The first is more about...

Vatican Girl - An unbelievable story

Vatican Girl is a Netflix documentary about Emanuela Orlandi, a 15 years old girl resident in Vatican City that disappeared in the summer of 1983. The documentary tells us multiple theories about the reasons for her disappearance and what might have happened to her.  The family The uncertainty hurts too much. Emanuela’s family never gave up looking for her. All these years, they suffered, and they clung to every little piece of hope. In the documentary, her siblings and some friends talk about her. Who she was, and what she was like. They also talk about that last fateful day and their pain. At this point, most of them only want some closure. The hope is always there, but I don’t think that, after so many years, any of them believes that Emanuela is still alive. The Vatican is made of people This documentary is about Emanuela and her family and the pain the case caused them. Yet, if you watch it closely, the documentary criticizes the Vatican and its (to say the least) shad...

Wednesday - they are back!

Wednesday brings us back the Addams family in a great spin-off. If you don't like spin-offs and always feel they let you down, well, you may rethink your perspective. This one is really good.  Wednesday brings back that dark humor we always loved, giving us a fantastic time. Jenna Ortega What an actress! Many people say that she "was" the show. Well, there are many good things on the show, but those comments only tell us how amazing Jenna Ortega was as Wednesday Addams.  She had, without a doubt, a lot of work to build such a fantastic character. She had to learn a lot of stuff like playing the cello and sword-play… but the most impressive is how she could control (or hide) feelings.  She showed the perfect sense of indifference that characterizes Wednesday's posture without looking like apathy. She deserves congratulations for her excellent part and hard work.   Oh, the mystery… Who of us can ignore a good mystery? Even when a show is not that good, if...

Only Murders in the Building - a sweet trio

I just finished the second season of Only Murders in the Building , and I must say I loved it. After watching a couple of episodes, I was hooked. Sweet characters and intricate stories full of mystery, I couldn’t ignore. The friendship between Mabel, Oliver, and Charles is excellent and funny. There is so much chemistry between the actors! The show is truly immersive. True crime podcast Can a crime story be funny? Of course! Only Murders in the Building is a clever comedy with good timing and unexpected plot twists and characters. It is about crime, but it is also about friendship and trust. It is a funny, light story that truly entertains you. Who’s the murderer? As with any good crime show, it is not who you’d expect. Instead, new and slightly shady characters are revealed through each season. However, as with many sitcom-style shows, at some point, you already know who did it before the characters find out. Light comedy works It is a light show, despite the crimes, fun and en...

Sins of Our Mother - How far can a delusion take you?

Sins of Our Mother is a true crime documentary, and you should prepare yourself to be shocked.  Crimes involving children are always shocking. But, when the crime comes from their own mother… it's unbearable. How can a mother do something like that? Why? How crazy must she be? Religion Fanaticism and a belief in the Apocalypse seem to be the reason why Lori Vallow allegedly murdered her two children and conspired to murder her ex-husband. Doom day, zombies, dark spirits… a macabre tale of a mother no one deserves to have. Blind faith (no matter the religion) kills and destroys. This case is one more example of how that assessment is true.  Testimonials This kind of documentary always involves testimonials from friends, family, and other people close to the happenings. In this case, some of them are pretty shocking. I truly felt for Lori's mother. She wanted so desperately to believe her daughter wasn't a monster. I can't even imagine how that woman was feeling. Also, ...
