3 things I hated about Bridgerton (and 2 I liked)

The way I see it, Bridgerton is a story about a market of young girls available to men. Their future depends on how well they can attract a male.  The main characters are the Bridgerton family. Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) has reached marriageable age. Her wedding will influence the whole family, including her sisters’ future. Yet, Daphne’s father died, and she depends on her older brother - an arrogant idiot. Well, in his defense, most of the characters are annoying. Appearances are everything, and don’t even make me talk about the Duke’s father.  So, what did I hate the most about this show? 1. Predictability The whole thing was predictable. That arrangement between Daphne and Duke? Wasn’t it obvious how it would end?  The Duke (Regé-Jean Page) is a slightly arrogant fool, with daddy issues, but quite fun nonetheless. Daphne was desperate for attention. So, their falling in love was painfully obvious from the first minute. The happy ending! Yes, they had a baby, ...

The Crown - season 4: polemics and non-facts

I was expecting this season for quite a long time. This was an exciting decade, and it contributed greatly to the show's entertainment value. The Iron Lady ’s government, the problems with the IRA, Diana getting into the royal family…  It starts with a great tragedy. Once more, you can feel disturbed by the restraint with which the royal family lives their grief.  Prince Charles Charles (Josh O'Connor) was a rebel! His character earns new importance in this season, and it doesn’t look good for the Prince of Wales. He looks vicious, rude… His envy and resentment from his wife’s popularity are sickening. Like the Queen says in the last episode, he is a spoiled, privileged boy. Besides, since they first met, it was obvious that Diana (Emma Corrin) wasn’t a woman to be in the shadows. Charles keeps ignoring and betraying her, time after time. Yet, when she does the same, she is the one breaking the vows. Every other character seems to think this is normal! Yes, those we...

Hollywood: A few real characters, better than real story

The show starts in a light, funny mode. An aspiring actor, to whom everything seems to happen. Everything bad.  It's difficult to understand exactly what this show is really about. What's the main message? It has more than one, I assume. How far would you go? From the beginning, the idea you get is that people would do anything to get what they want. The ends justify the means. Their lives are full of schemes and plots. More complex plots than the ones in the movies they are trying to act out.  The show tends to represent the more decadent side of Hollywood's history with a touch of humor.  Racism It is a fact that racism is real in the film industry, but in the golden age, people didn't even try to be "subtle". The protagonists must be white, and a black writer was impossible to imagine. It wasn't accepted. By anyone. The approach was interesting. The movie doesn't seem to have the intention of demonizing the s...
