Five was able to rescue his family from the apocalypse and time travel with them. The problem? The siblings landed in the same alley, in Dallas, but in different years of the early 60s.
This separation could be a disaster, but at least for the show, it was a great choice. In the first season, they didn't have the time to explore who they were outside their family, their powers, and responsibilities. Now, they found a way, an alternative, and they generally seem happy. That makes it even more difficult to abandon this new life to save the world and go back to their time.
The true Hargreaves
The big scary daddy, Hargreaves, has more secrets than his children could have dreamed.
He is involved in all sorts of things: conspiracy, time-traveling experiences, space exploration, Ape's experiences, and more. Let's face it, little Pogo was the cutest thing!
The experiment with Pogo explained a lot of his origins, but how about mom? Grace was a human being in the 60s, wasn't she? Curious? Unfortunately, that wasn't fully explained yet.
Funny fact: Mr. Hargreaves was an excellent fighter! Poor Diego…
Best Developments
There were interesting developments for all characters. This season allowed us to know them better, individually. In my opinion, the most interesting ones were Five, Ben, and Vanya. (I also liked to know that Hazel survived and had a good time with his love).
Let's start with Five. He can be a little annoying sometimes, yet, I found him funnier this season. I always thought about Klaus as the most amusing of the group. I'm not sure anymore. The side effects of looking at yourself produced a few laughs, but the best of all was Five's fighting with himself.
Ben was another character that grew significantly. We knew very little about him, and he becomes more important in this season. I loved it. His goodbye was beautiful.
Concerning Vanya, she isn't one of my favorites, but it was good to see her development. She shared a real connection with Sissy and the kid, and it was good to see her happy. Yet, what was really touching was to see her connecting again with her siblings. The scene when they all try to fit in the car to help her and be supportive is delicious.
Funnier
Perhaps Vanya wasn't that hard to control after all. She only needed to be loved, but love wasn't exactly the cup of tea of Mr. Hargreaves, was it?
I would say this season was lighter, even in the worst moments, there was always a bit of humor that enriched it. Almost nothing in the Umbrella Academy is logical or rational, and that's part of the fun.
That last episode raised a few questions. The one that bothers me the most: what else changed in that alternative future?
