After how much I loved the first season of Good Omens, I was very excited to learn about a second season. I was expecting the same level of laughter and entertainment and I'd soon be disappointed.
Archangel Gabriel
This season, Gabriel is the problem to be solved—nothing too complicated, a simple plot that could be quite interesting.
The Archangel Gabriel appears naked in the middle of the street, carrying an empty box with no memories at all… Curious? So was I.
After this entrance, you'll sit in front of the screen waiting for… nothing. Nothing happens most of the time.
Sure, there are some interesting flashbacks that only prove the great friendship Crowley and Aziraphale have, but that's short to keep you interested.
Crowley takes the prize
The whole season rests on Crowley's shoulders. It is the one thing to keep it from falling apart - a great character, interpreted by a great actor. No matter how bad this season is, he still can save the situation and keep us watching the show.
The chemistry between Sheen and Tennant is absolutely perfect. They carry the show by themselves, which is quite amazing (they deserve an award), but… something is missing this season.
Heartbreaking end
I felt like I spent a bunch of episodes seeing nothing happening, and then everything happened in the last one. It kind of saved the season, to be honest. It is a great episode, with a great cliffhanger for a potential third season, but absolutely heartbreaking.
I think Good Omens' quality was frankly lower this season, but somehow, it still kept me watching and eager for a third one. Excellent actors can, indeed, make any story work.
