Netflix’s Turn of the Tide is back for a second season, and honestly — I liked it.
It’s definitely darker and more serious than the first one, and that works. The stakes feel higher, the world more dangerous, and the visuals — especially those Azorean backdrops — are stunning. It’s still worth watching.
When Characters Start to Annoy
That said, some of the characters are downright annoying this time around.
Take Joe — I love him, I really do — but the constant code-switching between Portuguese and English feels forced. It’s such a cliché at this point, especially with former emigrants trying to sound cool by mixing languages. It no longer adds realism; it just feels like a stylistic tic.
Inspector Frias… Enough Already
Then there’s Inspector Frias (Maria João Bastos). She’s supposed to bring tension and discipline to the chaos, but instead she often comes off as grating and one-dimensional.
Every scene with her feels like an interrogation we’ve already endured. And her relationship with her daughter... let's just avoid that topic.
The Brazilians: A Strong Addition
On the bright side, the Brazilian characters are a great addition.
They give the season a new layer — showing how complex and interconnected the drug trade really is.
It’s not just about small-town rebels anymore; it’s about power, networks, and the price of ambition.
Please, Don’t Stretch It Further
Still, as much as I enjoyed this season, I hope it ends now. Despite some cliffhangers, the story feels complete. You don't need more of it.
If there’s a third season, it risks dragging things out just to squeeze a bit more out of a fish that’s already cooked.
