San Andreas

I watched this, for the first time, at the movie theater and I enjoyed it, so I watched again recently. I think I can say it’s a genre that I like, good to relax for a while, forget about your own life and focus on what’s happening on the screen. I like the sense of adventure these kind of Disaster movies have, that can actually take your breath for a few seconds. Of course, this is a Hollywood movie and some of the imagery is… well, pretty exaggerated. We know that isn’t exactly real, or even totally possible, but at same time… it doesn’t really matter since you almost forget that whilst you’re watching the movie. The story of the protagonist is also quite interesting too and offers you a decent slice of entertainment.

The Quarantine 2

This movie is one of a particular kind that I usually refer to by: “the synopsis promised way more than the movie actually is or shows”. When reading the synopsis you might imagine something way more interesting than what you’ll find, and definitely, different. Watching this movie, you can spend a bit of time, relaxing and distracting yourself, but, it’s not a good movie, by any means. What bothered me the most, were some of the unreasonable things that you’d spot here and there. One of those, and probably the one that got most of my attention was the fact that the organization that supposedly was going to save them seemed so incredibly panicky and unorganized… We are not talking about a massive problem, at least not just yet, but rather, something that is confined to a closed space. They were (at least, that’s what they make you believe during the movie) professionals, so why the incredible panic? I found this to be really exaggerated. The end of the movie is exac...

Zoo

I just finished watching the second season of this show and I must admit that it was sort of a disappointment.  The show’s premise is somewhat interesting and the first season fascinated me, having binge-watched all of its episodes in a row. Despite the fact that the big conspiracy theory was a bit too much for me, it was a good show and I had a good time watching it. The second season though was very different… it actually bored me at some point. It had a lot of twists and turns, which is usually good, but in this case, it was, again, a little too far out there. The way that Dr. Oz solved the problem annoyed me, it was as rational as it was cold and I definitely didn’t like it. The end of this 2nd season somewhat speaks to the existence of a third one. I got curious about the last scene, but I’m not sure that they can do something interesting enough to recover from the disaster that, in my point of view, was this latest season.

The OA

This is another one of those shows that leave you with a strange feeling after you watch them. You want to keep watching it… in actually, it’s difficult to stop. Mystery, suspense, you must end up figuring out what the hell is going on here, so you keep watching the whole season as fast as possible, but in the end… it’s nothing but confusing. I kind of left feeling that I was just as ignorant as in the beginning, despite now knowing the entire story. However, I suppose that the way we face the story is influenced by our own personal beliefs.  The plot is interesting, filled with mysteries and curious characters with interesting quirks. Many philosophical and spiritual questions are put on the table, but when you watch the last episode, you’ll realize that you still have more questions than you do any answers. I’m waiting for a second season, hoping for it to bring me some answers, the major one being: is The OA right about her theory as to who they are?

13 Reasons Why

I just finished watching this show last night and I still feel something I’m not quite able to put into words. I had previously read some criticism about the show regarding how negative it could be, impactful on teenagers and how inappropriate it was to romanticize the notion of suicide in this manner. Romanticize?! Well, I had only watched one episode back when I read all of this, and I was sort of in agreement. Yes, romanticizing such a thing could never be a good thing, it would tell the victims that these actions were a good answer to whatever they were feeling. But now, after I’ve watched the whole show, I must state: I totally understand all of the concerns, but I saw it in a different light. It’s disturbing, I indeed can’t deny it. In my country we have this saying that I can’t  precisely recall right now, but it’s about how children can be cruel sometimes, but when you’re a teenager, the cruelty you can exert can inflict so much more damage...  ...

Cake Decorating: An edible game controller

For my husband's birthday I wanted something special. So... for a gamer, a game controller! We decorated it together, live on twitch.tv and I had so much fun. Hope you enjoy. :)

It Follows

I really enjoy watching horror movies, even when they’re not great, because you either get a good scare or a good laugh. I just like it. So, based on that facet of myself, I decided to watch this movie with my husband. I thought “Hm, this might not be great, but we’ll at least get a laugh!”. I didn’t laugh, at all. Quite the opposite!  I’m not sure what I think of it as a movie, but it definitely got into my nerves. I jumped a couple of times and was pretty tense for most of it. So, it did a pretty good job for a movie in this genre. Of course, I found some flaws or weaknesses with it, some more severe than others, such as, for example, the ending to the movie. It was so abrupt, it seemed as if the tape had just ran out or something…  That particular ending probably has a purpose though. However, I can’t quite figure out what it might be. Will we perhaps have a second movie?  Speaking of the things I don’t really understand… Why are horror mov...

A cake for an amazing dad

This father's day, I made a cake for my dad, who is a big fan of soccer. The decoration itself didn't go that well... but it was a lot of fun.

Do It Yourself - Fathers Day

My baby's present for daddy was hand made. ;)

Outlander - disturbingly addictive

Disturbingly addictive is, without a doubt, the most effective way of describing this show and the effect it can have on you. Nominated for many a prize, Outlander actually won the “Most addictive” prize at Critics’ Choice TV Awards, and, let’s face it, it totally deserved it. I started watching the first season by chance. I mean, I was scrolling down Netflix, looking for something to watch. I wasn’t sure what I was really looking for, and this series stood out. I didn’t even read the synopsis, just liked the image and opened it.  The fist scenes weren’t that catching and I gave up in a few minutes. A few days latter, I gave it a second try and forced myself to watch the first episode. Well, in the middle of it, I was already hooked. When the second season came out, I got quite excited, I really wanted to see what would happen next, but the first episode was a bit of a let down. It wasn’t bad, per se , but I felt like it was lacking of something. However, it...

I am but a Shell

Inside each one of us, there is a pearl, unique and shinning. I am but a shell, keeping inside of me a hidden, closed off world, a treasure of light. A pearl just a few will discover, only the patient ones, the ones feeding the tide which will force open the shell, the ones who know how to appreciate the light brightness escaping through the half-open gap, without demanding too much. Because the full glow will either blind them, or escape them, in a single little movement, like a fleeting light.

Big Hero 6

An animation movie usually tends to be a good time for all those involved, whether it’s just to  relax a little or to enjoy some family time. I saw this particular film, Big Hero 6, just last Christmas and I must say, it was delightful. At first, I though it was some sort of robotics movie , which, in my mind, meant a silly little thing full of machines and unrealistic projects and gadgets, focused on making kids dream, but usually falling short of said goal and leaving them dumbed down or with highly unrealistic expectations. Fortunately, I was wrong… oh so wrong. I was left pleasantly surprised! It’s a beautiful story, sweet and full of fraternal love, friendship and sacrifices for the good of those we love.  It’s quite sad too, in a way, which can be refreshing. It doesn’t portray a world where nothing bad could or would ever happen. Instead, it shows children that bad things can indeed happen and you can overcome said obstacles and strive to make you...

Gilmore Girls: A Year in Life

After watching 7 seasons in a row for this show, I couldn’t resist watching this one as well. I have to admit though, it was a little disappointing.  I believe that for people who had seen the show back in time when it was still being produced, this new season could be interesting, like a trip down memory lane, yet, for me… I don’t know, I just felt like it lacked something… substance maybe. I liked Rory’s dilemma , it felt so real and current and I think it actually raised my expectations, but then… Lorelay and Luke didn’t really evolve within all these years, while Paris evolved way too much, too quickly… Well, there really isn’t that much more to say about this new reboot . I loved the original show, but I guess I was sort of expecting something different from this one.

Winds of Betrayal: Unraveling A Storm of Swords

One more from A Song of Ice and Fire and plenty more hours of absolute focus and heart-wrenching emotion. The story is evolving magnificently and I’m falling more and more in love with this saga.  They Become More Than Names In the third book, more characters gain a clear voice and that, in turn, enriches the story, letting us have a notion of what they think and why they act the way they do. It makes them more human and as such, more interesting and captivating.  Of course, there is an underlying problem with this… We are talking about a book with plenty of characters, so sometimes it takes a lot of chapters to get back to the one you were wondering about, and you might get a little lost ( need some help? ). Given the new characters' voices and minds, many things are enlightening. Much more of the background story is clearer now, for example. Sometimes, it might just seem like details in the whole story, but somehow, it grants it more consistency and some...

World War Z - The Night the Zombies Ran

I watched this movie on one of those nights—you know the kind. My husband had a rare evening off, our baby was finally asleep, and we had that golden question on our hands: “Should we watch something? And if so... what?” So I opened Netflix, did a bit of scrolling, and landed on a zombie movie . Why not, right? We hit play. We weren’t expecting much—just something fun to unwind with. First Impressions: An Unexpected Take on the Undead Let me start by saying this: it’s not a bad movie. The plot had some interesting elements, the cast was solid, and the pacing wasn’t awful. But there was one thing that completely threw me off… The zombies run. And jump. And climb. Yes, you read that right. As a fan of zombie movies and post-apocalyptic settings, I’ve seen all kinds of takes on the genre—but this one felt especially… energetic. At first, I couldn’t even process what I was seeing. Zombies aren't supposed to be athletic! It was almost too much for my traditional zom...
