The 4th episode of season 5 arrived, and with it, a great disappointment.
Yes, after the great last episode, everything would feel small, but this was just a waste of time.
This is the final season; it is supposed to evolve and give us closure, not add meaningless subplots.
The boys fighting because of some invisible force that was enraging them was not interesting; Starlight meeting dad was unnecessary; and even the Homelander/Soldier Boy scenes, usually funny, were quite boring.
The Quest for the V1
We knew this was coming. V1 protects the supes from the terrible virus that, by the way, they don't have anymore. So, obviously, this was the logical path.
The Last of Us vibe was kind of cool, but not enough to save the idiotic scenes ahead.
Honestly, I liked that Hughie (Jack Quaid) called Starlight a bi***, because she can truly be one, but other than that, those were just empty, meaningless scenes.

By the way, Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) was way more interesting when she didn't talk. Is it just me, or is she becoming a bit annoying?
In the end, no one got the stuff. Another supe, a new one, but old enough to already have V1 in him, stole it. Or so they think. Why? Not sure. Maybe a fantastic, unexpected subplot, or just another thing to avoid true development. Who knows?
Starlight meeting Daddy
We don't care. We. Really. Don't. Care.
This could have been a good subplot, seasons ago, while she (Erin Moriarty) was understanding her origin, but now? A waste of time. It was just a few bad scenes and the introduction of new characters that we probably won't see again. So why? There's no point.
A stepmother too desperate to like her, an a**hole brother, and surprise! Her dad is a cop. Yeah, as stated before, unnecessary.
Best Characters Also Have Bad Scenes
This episode was very democratic in giving bad, dull, and unnecessary scenes, with zero interest to all characters. Even the absolute stars - Homelander (Antony Starr) and Soldier Boy - didn't have a chance to shine.
Being together and hating each other is starting to get tiring. Yes, we all liked to watch Homelander suffer in that room, but it wasn't enough to save the episode. Honestly, not even a scene.
If Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) wants to kill him, she should just do it already! Oh, but wait, he's having a crisis because he saw a guy on the wall, and it worked as a mirror of how ridiculous he is.
That didn't work either.

Not All Episodes Can Be Great
Sadly, we can't really say this was a shock. I don't think it is possible to only write perfect, breathtaking episodes for a whole season.
Yet, this one was a bad choice, especially being right after the one that shocked us so much.
I love the show, and I was sad that this was the last season, but actually, I'm not anymore. Not because I found it that awful, but because it showed me that stories need ends. Everybody wants to kill each other, but always finds a reason not to... which just leaves us tired.
Also, the conversation about Stormfront (Aya Cash) seemed to be a transition for the audience, preparing us for the upcoming Vough Rising.
