If you're looking for a family drama that explores the ups and downs of raising children, Parenthood delivers exactly that. As the title suggests, the series revolves around parenting, following one extended family through the many stages of raising kids—from toddlers to teenagers and young adults.
While it's undoubtedly a well-made show, it wasn't entirely my cup of tea.
A Realistic Look at Parenting
One of Parenthood's biggest strengths is its honest portrayal of the challenges of family life. Every stage of parenting comes with its own struggles, and the show does a great job of highlighting the emotional highs and lows that parents face.
That said, it sometimes felt like the writers packed every possible family problem into a single household. While this certainly keeps the drama moving, it also makes the series feel a little overwhelming and less believable for me.
Familiar Faces, Familiar Characters
Fans of Lauren Graham will probably be excited to see her in Parenthood. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was watching Lorelai Gilmore all over again. Her performance is charming, but it didn't feel particularly different from the role that made her famous.
If you're already a fan of her style, that's likely a positive. Personally, I was hoping to see something a little more distinct.
Final Verdict
Overall, Parenthood is a solid family drama with heartfelt moments, relatable parenting struggles, and enough humor to balance the emotional storylines. Even though it wasn't my favorite series, I can appreciate what it sets out to do.
If you enjoy shows centered around family relationships, parenting, and everyday drama with occasional light-hearted moments, Parenthood could be well worth adding to your watchlist.
